very good again bennie, i remember repairing the lifts on the st patrick going to belfast every night, one night we set sail and you had to go to lock gates that lowered you to sea level, st patrick went acckross and lost all power half way, and hit the gates, i could hear all the commotion and dock lads trying to stop the ferry by throwing steel anchor ropes and they was exploding, lucky the gate held up, they sent divers down and the ballast tanks at the front was damages, the bullbust bit ....... she didnt sail for 2 weeks .....:sad1:

I watched Michael Wood's History of England last week and it featured Floxton Locks - apparently it is a main thoroughfare and the gateway to the south of England.:smile1:

I think you can get it on iplayer - although, I am not sure if the one I watched was on iplayer:big_smile: always catching up myself:big_smile: I think it was episode 3 - I think if you miss something on iplayer - you can always watch it on the BBC website - will have a gander...............

It is on iplayer - Michael Woods Story Of England - episode 5 - doesn't really give a lot on FL but it was a hub of activity during the Industrial Revolution.

Strange how you never hear of a place and then all of a sudden it keeps cropping up. LOL
