i remember catching a train from Wigan central in 1968, does anyone know when it closed. i ask because i believe it was BEFORE 1968 and there is a reason i ask.

Passenger services officially closed on the 2nd of November 1964 but the line remained open for freight until 1968, I read on Wigan World somewhere that after the line closed for passenger services, certain passenger specials were run from the Central Station up until the late 1960's :smile1:

I think the photo headed Standish Railway Station is in fact Coppull Station which is very similar.

You are correct standishr, the station in question is indeed Coppull Station, so I have corrected the station name and inserted a real picture of Standish Railway Standish and thank you for pointing out the mistake :smile1:
