Default Mesnes High School Kids Went On Strike

The WEP in a retro section have reproduced a report from 1973 when pupils from the Mesnes High School in Wigan (formerly Wigan Grammar School) went on strike, I remember that and I also remember being at the Deanery the day after that had happened, when the kids at the Deanery High School in Wigan staged their own sit down strike at the back of the school at the end of morning break period and the teachers chased them all back into the school

But that was not reported in the local press

I remember it too bernard. I left Wigan Grammar in'73 the year it became Mesnes High School.
The place was in a decline from the year I started, 1968, and when it was fully realised it would lose ir's "Grammar school" status the staff became even more sour and cynical.
I never believed it before but the 11 plus did give ordinary kids the chance of a decent education. Now it all down to being able to afford to live in the affluent areas.
